CLI Studios won $85,000 in professional services from the forum sponsors, including law firms Stradling and Knobbe Martens.
CLI, with HQ in LA, was founded by dancers and dance teachers.
It provides instructional dance videos for K-12 students and dance studios.
It’s currently seeking $5M in a Series A round.
The ed-tech startup saw close to $2 million in revenue last year. And, it’s raised that same amount over the past few years, co-founder and CEO Jon Arpino said.
He’s a former attorney and former teacher.
CLI owns 100% of the content. And, it creates all its own music so there’s no licensing issues.
It uses a B2B subscription model. It’s also developing a B2B2C model to provide mentors for top students, who are looking for more private coaching.
LaunchPad Director JC Ruffalo told OC Startups Now that Arpino “did an excellent job presenting” and there were several factors that led to his win.
“CLI Studios has a world class team with great business and industry experience.” Ruffalo said. “There are over 4 million schools that need access to great arts teachers. CLI Studios is providing the solution with 24/7 access to the best arts educators in the world. They are currently in 2,400 schools, producing revenue, have a solid economic business model and road map that is ready to scale.”
