*NEWS: OC Startup Nominated for National Villalobos Award

An OC startup has been nominated to receive the prestigious Luis Villalobos Award, which honors companies that have been funded by Angel Capital Association members.

GrandPad, with HQ in Orange, will be presented, along with two other startups, at the 2019 ACA Summit in Chicago on April 25.

GrandPad is a tablet for older people that features a secure private family network. Wireless connectivity and security are built into the device, eliminating the risks of scams and hacks.

Users can play games, listen to music, and use other exclusive apps. Caregivers and family members can also use the video chat feature, receive voice emails and share photos with seniors through GrandPad’s app. See more news on GrandPad here.

The award is in honor of the late Luis Villalobos, who founded Tech Coast Angels. Tech Coast Angels is the leading source of funding to early stage companies in SoCal. It has five chapters spanning the SoCal region.

Angel Capital Association is the world’s largest angel professional development organization. Tech Coast Angels members are part of its 14,000-plus accredited angel investors.

John Harbison, chairman emeritus of Tech Coast Angels OC and a board member of GrandPad, nominated GrandPad for the award.

“Technology is the culprit behind loneliness in older adults and GrandPad is the solution with an interface and experience meticulously designed with their needs in mind,” Harbison said in an April 11 press release.

Scott Lien is the co-founder and CEO of GrandPad.
