NEWS: Innovative Developer of Suspended Contact Lenses Recognized at OCTANe’s Annual Ophthalmology Summit. Lentechs Plans to Open Series B in the Fall…

A startup that created contact lens that can be positioned in a suspended position in the eye was recognized as being most innovative during OCTANe’s annual ophthalmology summit in Newport Beach on Friday.

Lentechs, with HQ in Ohio, was recognized by a panel of investor judges during the LaunchPad SBDC company presentations. LaunchPad is OCTAN’e tech and lifesciences accelerator. OCTANe is based in Aliso Viejo.

The company said it plans to open a Series B round in the Fall.

It’s a clinical-stage med-device company focused on developing a portfolio of suspended soft contact lenses. The company’s flagship contact lens platform is designed based on the natural structures of the eye and curvature of the cornea, suspending the lens from the upper lid.

Lentechs is developing a platform of lenses to span the entire patient lifecycle, with an initial focus on presbyopia, a condition associated with the aging that results in the progressively-worsening ability to focus clearly on close objects.

It wants its customers to stay in contact lenses, and not switch to glasses, as many do as they age.

The company said it expects that its lenses for this condition to earn FDA clearance this year.

Lentechs is backed primarily by Bluestem Capital, Rev1 Ventures and a network of angel investors.
