*NEWS: Irvine Chamber Delegation Trips to U.K. Pays Off. Virtual Workspace, Oneclick, Provider Expands to Irvine…

A virtual workspace provider has expanded from the U.K. to Irvine.

OneClick selected Irvine for its expansion to the West coast “after extensive research of several technology hubs” in the U.S., according to a Nov. 20 press release issued by the Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce.

The expansion is the direct result of efforts led by the chamber to bring expansion-ready companies in the UK to Irvine.

The chamber leads annual delegations to the UK and brings along various stakeholders in OC’s startup/innovation ecosystem, including OCTANe, UCI Medical Center, UCI Beall Applied Innovation, Allergan, Edwards Life Sciences and ThinkBox Technologies.

The most recent delegation was to London in February.

And, the chamber’s Irvine Gateway program hosted Nehal Thakore, global director of business development for the company, in April. That’s when he was introduced to the area and met with Irvine Gateway partners including CSUF and City National Bank.

During this month’s visit, Thakore is conducting site selection for the new office and meeting with key partners to facilitate details of the launch in Irvine.

Oneclick provides enterprises the ability to bridge the gap between local desktop applications and online device-agnostic applications.

Users can access all their applications and data from anywhere, on any device, through a workspace in the browser.

Bill Carpou, CEO of OCTANe was one of the chamber’s original foreign direct investment delegation members and “has brought great credibility, insight and perspective to our work with companies in the UK looking to expand,” Linda DiMario, EVP of the chamber, told OCSN.

Richard Sudek, chief innovation officer at UCI Beall Applied Innovation, was not involved directly with this company moving to Irvine, a UCI spokeswoman said.

But UCI Beall Applied Innovation has been active with the chamber’s foreign direct investment efforts to engage the UK life science industry, she added.

“We are proud partners with the Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce and are active supporters of their premiere Irvine Ready! Program,” Sudek told OC Startups Now. “UCI Beall Applied Innovation has participated in three (foreign direct investment) efforts to engage the UK life science industry, meeting with OneClick in the UK, as well as when they visited Irvine, the the Cove specifically. We see this as a vital part of our mission to make Orange County globally recognized as a center for scalable innovation.”

The Cove is the physical space of UCI Beall Applied Innovation.
