NEWS: Startup Gets AI Breakthrough Recognition

A startup that powers chips with AI to create a new class of ultra-low-power, high-performance processors for edge computing has been honored as the Best Deep Learning Company for Artificial Intelligence Platforms by AI Breakthrough, an independent organization that honors top companies, technologies and products in the global AI market.

Syntiant’s chips are being designed into battery-powered wearables, hearables, mobile phones, smart speakers and remote controls, as well as home automation devices.

The startup claims its microwatt-power neural decision processors achieve approximately 100 times efficiency improvement over stored program architectures such as CPUs and DSPs

Syntiant CEO Kurt Busch told OC Startups Now that the company plans to launch full productions of the first devices this month.

The company incubated at EvoNexus in Irvine and has since moved to the Irvine Spectrum area.

It has close to 50 employees.

The mission of the AI Breakthrough Awards is to honor excellence and innovation, along with hard work and success in a range of AI and machine learning related categories, including AI platforms, natural language processing, smart robotics, business intelligence industry specific AI applications and more. The 2019 awards attracted over 1,500 nominations from across the globe.

Syntiant is backed by strategic investors, including Intel Capital, Microsoft M12, Bosch Ventures and the Amazon Alexa Fund.
