UPDATE/INNOVATION: 4th St. Market Used Lockdown Time to Revamp the Urban Venue. Re-Opening Slated for July 11

A food hall in Santa Ana is undergoing a re-design and plans for a hard re-opening on July 11.

It’s now in a soft re-opening phase. And it’s added a slogan to its original moniker. It’s now 4th Street Market: Innovative Food Hall. Founder Ryan Chase, whose family real estate company created the venue, used the time the venue was shut down during the lockdown to revamp it, including the interior walls and signage, as well as the patio, with award-winning murals. 

The tenants that are still there include Fakas Island Grill; authentic Vietnamese crepes from Banh Xeo Boys; breakfast sandwiches from Deli Station (open as early as 8:30am daily); vegan goods from Naughty Panda; ice cream from Chunk-N-Chip; specialty green Masa tamales from La Vegana Mexicana.

Alta Baja Market is also open daily from 10am-4pm (with new extended breakfast hours coming next week), offering its entire menu, as well as its popular weekend brunch items and family packs of housemade Pozole in celebration of ‘Pozole Sunday’ (every last Sunday of the month).

The hours of the market are now  11am – 8pm Sunday – Wednesday and 11am-9pm Thursday – Saturday, with the caveat that  this is a soft re-opening and hours are subject to change and some vendor hours may vary.

With this reopening, the 4th Street Market team will also be implementing numerous health and safety measures, such as: extra cleaning, public exterior-facing doors to minimize touching, separating tables (including cutting all the large patio tables in half), requiring both employees and customers to wear face coverings while indoors, public-facing hand sanitizing stations, and more.

For patrons that aren’t comfortable eating inside, vendors are continuing to offer curbside and/or take-out services.

In other goings-on around 4th St Market are the soon-to-be completed 24 apartment units directly above the market, which are also being built by Ryan Chase and his family real estate company, as well as a proposed $100 million apartment project across the street, an East End Skatepark, the upcoming OC Streetcar, and many other community projects in the works, according to a press release.

There’s also one of the only four Stussy Archive stores in the country across the street and dozens of murals throughout the area, so the food hall is surrounded by culture and creativity. While the food hall has not changed its trademark or web address to reflect the new slogan, it’s now emphasizing that it’s an “innovative food hall” to further differentiate the venue in the ever-growing food hall industry.

The “innovation” aspect refers to the ever-evolving line-up of tenants that changes frequently because of the market’s mission to support new business owners and provide turnkey solutions for their business goals, a spokesperson told OCSN. In contrast to typical food halls, which can force tenants to sign ten-year lease terms.
