*NEWS: Matthew Hanson Moves from Chapman to UCI After One Year. He’s Now Director of New Ventures at UCI Applied Innovation

Chapman University confirmed on September 19 what Matt Hanson already posted on his LinkedIn page: He has left Chapman’s innovation center and is now the director of new ventures at UCI Applied Innovation, UCI’s innovation center.

“This new, collaborative role allows me the opportunity to help scalable startups commercialize products and services that can make a significant impact to the Orange County economy, as part of establishing UCI as a vital hub for entrepreneurial activity in the region,” Matt Hanson told OC Startups Now.

Just over a year ago, Hanson was hired by Chapman University as director of its entrepreneur hub, the Ralph W. Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics. He started at Chapman last September. The center is part of the Argyros School of Business and Economics. A Chapman spokesperson confirmed his exit and said the Leatherby Center will announce a new director in the coming weeks.

Hanson had replaced Shan Steinmark as the director there last year.

This is not the first time someone has exited Chapman’s innovation hub for the similar location at UCI. Richard Sudek, the chief innovation officer at UCI Applied Innovation, was the director of the Leatherby Center for three years. He left in 2014.
